LAINI TAYLOR, SARAH J. AND JOHN GREEN… THESE ARE MY FAVORITES OF 2015

Now, my little cupcakes, I MUST TELL YOU: I only started reading YA this year. Yeah. So basically all of the authors that I know, I discovered in the last 11 months.

This Week’s TTT Prompt: Top Ten New-To-Me in 2015 Authors

Wow, that’s a real challenge! I have to choose only 10 favorites?! I mean, I know I could go ‘outside-the-box’ and choose a couple more, but I probably should narrow it down for myself as well. And who can pass up a challenge? *snorts* No one.

So let’s make it a DOUBLE CHALLENGE, and choose ten authors that I’ve read more than one book by, and then ten authors that I’ve only read once. Because otherwise, it just wouldn’t be fair to those lovely authors that I’ve only just gotten a taste of, right?

Let’s do this.

TOP TEN AUTHORS OF WHOSE AMAZINGNOSITY I HAVE PARTAKEN IN MORE THAN ONCE

Sophie Kinsella

The funniest woman ever. Her Shopaholic series is fantastic, and… I just love her writing style.

Books Read: 10

Louise Rennison

Wow. The silliness… is mind-blowing. Louise loves having a good time with her 14-year-old character, and I can’t recommend her enough. Can’t you just tell what kind of books she has from the titles?!

Books Read: 9

Sarah J. Maas

The f**king QUEEN of fantasy. Funny dialogue, snarky characters, sexy ships, creepy plots, and overall BADASSERY.

Books Read: 5

Cassandra Clare

Nobody can write a beautiful trilogy quite like Cassandra… nobody can… *sob*

Books Read: 5

Marie Lu

Her Legend trilogy was definitely not my favorite, but she takes a darker turn with her new series The Young Elites, which I really love.

Books Read: 4

Marissa Meyer

A delightfully clever author, who turned boring fairytales into epic futuristic novels! GO READ THEM.

Books Read: 3

Rainbow Rowell

A cuddly little woman with the cutest characters ever. Eleanor & Park = #relationshipgoals.

Books Read: 3

John Green

So, he’s not my favorite author ever, but I love curling up with his short little contemporaries and having a good cry. Because we need those books, you know?

Books Read: 3

Laini Taylor

THE MOTHERF**KING SLAYER OF ALL MYTHOLOGY EVER. I love her writing so much, it’s sooo rich and beautiful.

Books Read: 2

Stephanie Perkins

Again, not my fave author of all time, but Anna and the French Kiss is a real cutie.

TOP TEN AUTHORS OF WHOSE BRILLIANCE I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE TASTE OF

*********

image

Mindy Kaling

A funny, independent gal who honestly made me pee my pants. I am a huge fan of her writing.

image

Jojo Moyes

Jojo reminds me of Sophie Kinsella, but somehow more relaxed and sad… her writing is just damn beautiful though.

image

V.E. Schwab

If you want some YA writing that’s clean, crisp, dark, and elegant, then just let me show you over here *shoves hand towards book*

image

Stephenie Meyer

I read Twilight, and it was good! I actually enjoyed it, and I want to read the others. Stephenie combines a chick-lit-esque style with fantasy, and it’s pretty bomb.

image

Ransom Riggs

A delightfully unique new author, who uses creepy vintage snapshots tied in with his writing to create some truly chilling YA.

image

Josh Sunquist

This guy’s a YouTubing sensation, but his romantic life hasn’t been that… great. He shows a lot of writing promise, though, and I hope to read more from him.

image

Michelle Hodkin

Another creepy-ass author, but this time with a more physchological twist. I fell in LOVE with her plotting style!

image

Tahereh Mafi

So many unique people on this list! Tahereh used a creative style with strike-out text and some of the most beautiful poetic-like writing I’ve ever read.

image

 Maggie Stiefvater

A dark, intriguing style from an author I’d almost never heard of, I was in love with Maggie’s writing from the first page.

Ruta Sepetys

 The… kids… and… teddy bear… *bursts into tears*

***************

Well, there you have it! Those are my top TWENTY authors of this year. Whew, that list took a long time to make.

let's chat

Have you read any of these authors? Notice any favorites? What were your favorite authors of 2015? I’d be more than happy to read any & all links left in the comments.

  1. Wow, you really discovered a lot of authors this year! I had a kind of slow year for new discoveries, but I’m seeing a lot of authors this week that I haven’t read (the TBR continues to grow…)

  2. Great list! I had a hard time finding 10 that I had read more than one book of – I thought it was a little premature to call an author my favorite if I had only read one book by them. I should have done a break down like this, though! My list would have been so much longer!

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday!

  3. I love pretty much all the authors you mentioned, especially Rainbow Rowell and Sarah J. Maas. Well, and John Green and Marissa Meyer, and as I said EVERYONE. Be prepared to fall in love with the Raven Boys series even more after the second book (it was my favorite so far) and the same goes for the Shatter Me trilogy. Great list!

    • Ahhhhhh *flails* thank you, my little peach! I knew a lot of people’s favorites would be on here, because these are probably the more popular YA authors out there… But I still love ’em!

  4. Ahhh, I LOVE HOW YOU SET THIS ALL OUT!!! And Omg, do I spy Maggie Stiefvater?! *Flails forever* Are you going to read more of her books?! BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL RIDICULOUSLY BRILLIANT. *hyperventilates* I also love John Green and Tahereh Mafi and Rainbow Rowell… :’) So much awesome here. Just so much….*collapses with author appreciation* Here’s my TTT!

  5. Ooh so many great picks! I started reading Sarah J. Maas this year too and I’m really digging her books. I am so happy that you read Marissa Meyer and Stephanie Perkins this year! They are both some of my favorite authors in their respected genres. I only read one book from Jojo Moyes but I want to read others as well. I own the sequel but haven’t gotten around to it yet!
